Our history
A journey marked by renewal and expansion
CDON was founded in 1999 and has since undergone a significant transformation, from a focused e-retailer to a leading Nordic marketplace. Our journey reflects a continuous pursuit of growth, adaptation, and strategic expansion.
Initially established as an e-retailer of music and movies, CDON quickly expanded its reach across the Nordic countries.
The early 2000s were characterized by continuous development and expansion. CDON significantly broadened its product range and entered the market for consumer electronics and household products. Through acquisitions such as Tretti, Nelly, Gymgrossisten, and Lekmer, a leading Nordic e-commerce group was created.
A major strategic shift began in 2013 when CDON initiated its transformation towards a marketplace model, inviting third-party sellers to offer their products on the platform. This development was consolidated by 2016, when CDON was established as one of the leading online stores in the Nordics with over 1,700 active merchants on the marketplace. Several of the previous holdings were also divested, as the business was streamlined.
Further corporate development included the launch of Qliro AB within CDON Group in 2015 to handle payments. The group subsequently changed its name to Qliro Group. In 2020, however, Qliro AB and CDON AB were split and listed separately, while Qliro Group changed its name to Nelly Group.
The latest phase of our journey has been characterized by strategic acquisitions and mergers aimed at strengthening our market position and platform capabilities. Looking to the future, CDON merged with Fyndiq in early 2023, a strategic move to further strengthen our market presence and broaden the offering to merchants. This ongoing commitment to innovation and growth underscores CDON Group's ambition to be the leading marketplace operator in the Nordics.
